International director, Asos

As fashion specialist Asos’ international director, Kamaluddin is playing a pivotal part in taking the etailer to new heights.

Already the darling of the UK’s cyberspace high street, Asos intends to replicate its success abroad with ventures such as the launch of dedicated websites. A US site went live in September and French and German sites are also now up and running.

Asos’ international sales rose 128% in the second quarter and, in the first half, accounted for 37% of the sales mix. At present, EU countries account for the bulk of oveseas turnover but the US is growing fast - up 293% in the second quarter.

Kamaluddin took up his post in April 2009, but is a longstanding Asos man. He was previously the finance director and has been with the etailer since 2004.

Although associated with retail’s digital age, Kamaluddin also has a background in stores.

He was the former head of finance at Marks & Spencer’s Per Una brand.

Kamaluddin, a chartered accountant, started his career at Arthur Andersen, where he was a corporate recovery specialist.

It looks like there’s no chance of those skills being needed at Asos as it goes from strength to strength.
