The Co-op has named a new growth director and promoted its food chief executive to a new position, as part of a major leadership team shake-up announced this morning.

The retailer announced this morning that Jerome Saint-Marc has decided to leave the business after nearly two years with the Co-op. It has named a new growth director and promoted its existing wholesale director to its operating board.

The retailer said that current non-executive board member Wais Shafita has joined the retailer full-time as its new chief growth officer. MD of wholesale Katie Secretan has been named on the operating board.

The Co-op also announced a promotion for food boss Matt Hood, who has now been named as the retailer’s new chief commercial and logistics officer and will be responsible for running a new group commercial and logistics division within the mutual.

The c-store specialist said Hood’s new division will “include expertise and buying power for both goods for resale and goods not for resale, servicing all Co-op stores, franchise, independent societies and Nisa, and creates a significant grocery buying group, which will be combined with our extensive logistics and supply operation.”

As a result of Hood’s promotion, the retailer has now begun the search to find a new managing director of food retail. The role will temporarily be undertaken by group chief executive Shirine Khoury-Haq, while the right candidate is found.
