Fashion web site to complement Amazon clothes offer
Online retailer Amazon has acquired internet fashion company Shopbop.com for an undisclosed sum.

Wisconsin-based Shopbop sells women's clothes, shoes and accessories from 75 designers such as Marc Jacobs, True Religion and Juicy Couture.

Since its start-up 10 years ago, Amazon has changed from a bookseller into one of the world's biggest online retailers, selling everything from DVDs to jewellery.

Amazon said that Shopbop will continue to operate as a standalone site and will complement Amazon's existing apparel and accessories store.

Shopbop.com chief executive Bob Lamey said: 'All of us at Shopbop.com have worked hard to make our company a leading destination for fashion consumers. We're very happy to have the support, experience and resources of Amazon to take the brand and business to new levels.'
