Asos.com has announced it will launch a Facebook shop later this month, allowing its 390,000 fans to buy its clothes without leaving the Facebook site.

Facebook shops are more common in the US but haven’t quite caught on here yet, and Asos says it’s the first in Europe to launch one. The online clothing retailer has grown quickly over the past few years and its creative marketing – relying on heavy use of social media – has often helped give it an edge over other more traditional retailers in the same market.

Customers will be able to search all products available on Asos.com, buy products, share products with Facebook friends and write reviews.

The company is using a platform from Usablenet and developed the store in partnership with them. Retailers can receive a sizeable chunk of website traffic from Facebook and the company is hoping the new shop will help it convert more of this into sales.

E-Commerce director James Hart said, “Millions of our users already interact with ASOS through Facebook, commenting on, sharing and discovering new items. Many of those go on to buy something on one of our sites. Our Facebook Store will allow them to do this directly through Facebook.”

Other retailers have already reported increased traffic after putting the Facebook “like” button on product pages, allowing customers to share products they like with online friends. The role networks like Facebook play in retail looks set to keep growing.
