Online fashion giant Asos is extending the use of a virtual fitting room using technology provided by Virtusize.

The tool allows shoppers to enter the dimensions of an item of clothing in their possession, and then see it as an overlay over a garment they are considering for purchase. This lets customers see the relative fit of products and helps them decide which size to buy. For the retailer, this could minimise returns and increase sales.

Customers can also save Asos products that they own and compare those, eliminating the need to take measurements. At the moment shoppers might be put off by the initial complexity.

Other tools in this market, such as Fits.me or Metail, allow customers to enter their own measurements to create an online version of their body.

A Virtusize “fit visualizer” button will now appear alongside about 2,000 of Asos’ own-brand products, as well as a survey gathering feedback on the tool.
