Carphone Warehouse has completed the roll-out of its loss prevention software geared towards preventing employee theft by implementing it in Germany.

The web-based case management software, supplied by loss prevention software company Oris, provides information on shrink figures and margin risks appropriate for each user’s job role. The retailer wanted a tool that would allow staff to manage loss and risk in one place.

Each country is able to configure the dashboard with appropriate key performance indicators. The data that populates the dashboard is being pulled from sources including its sales, inventory management, HR and reporting systems.

The system measures the efficiency of the loss prevention team and their clear-up rates in the field and documents the cost of the fraud and the investigation itself.

Head of loss prevention in Carphone Warehouse in Germany Jennie Butzlaff said: “”In Germany you cannot simply dismiss someone based upon soft evidence. Their protection is rightly enshrined in German law. We now have a smaller loss prevention team and ORIS Case Manager has been able to demonstrate to the business the profitability of our outcomes and is now a daily work tool recognised at all levels of the business.”

The Oris Group managing director Andrew Wood added: “If you are placed in front of a tribunal over a question of workplace dishonesty the system provides the granular detail and evidence of good practice necessary to prove a case. To install the software, we had to get approval from the Workers Council. We spent time reviewing the language to ensure it was compliant, ensuring the software was fair and reasonable and tweaking the look and feel to get this approval.”

The system was installed in the UK, Republic of Ireland and the Netherlands in 2009 and is also used in all other countries Carphone Warehouse has presence, namely in Holland, France, Sweden, Spain and Portugal.
