Walmart Canada boss David Cheesewright and Asda finance director Judith McKenna have both been strongly linked with the Asda CEO’s job, but as it stands neither is in the running.

Indeed in some quarters they have been talked about as a shoe-in, but both have personal reasons why they don’t want to be considered at the present time.

McKenna is quite happy doing what she’s doing and with a young family doesn’t want to be considered for the top job at this time. Former Asda COO Cheesewright meanwhile simply loves living in Canada - he’s doing his second stint there and loves the lifestyle.

That’s not to say a massive cheque waved in front of them might not help change their minds, but as it stands neither is on the shortlist. That means other internal candidates from within Walmart - namely John Fleming, Stephen Quinn and Jack Sinclair - have to be considered favourites, along with Asda COO Andy Clarke. There are also external candidates on the list.
