Department store stalwarts, Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, are the highlights of Christmas VM in Paris this year.

In general, there seemed to be an almost cavalier disregard for the season of goodwill in the French Capital. It was left to the two Grands Magasins on the Boulevard Haussmann to fly the festive flag. They did so with fantasy-filled windows with the kind of animatronic characters that used to be a feature of show-stopping displays in London.
