Major British retailer Marks and Spencer has opened its first store dedicated to menswear, womenswear and beauty

Marks & Spencer has opened a standalone clothing and beauty store for the first time. The new store, located in London’s Battersea Power Station, carries a curated range of the retailer’s men’s and womenswear alongside a selection of beauty lines.

M&S typically retails its clothing alongside food in full-line stores. The opening of the fashion store, however, replicates a similar approach in food – M&S runs a highly successful estate of Simply Food branches.

M&S said that the new shop, measuring 8,400 sq ft, offers shoppers “plenty of style inspiration with the latest collections across womenswear and menswear, and dedicated, neon-lit areas to spotlight M&S customer favourites” including Jaeger and Autograph.

The retailer said: “Shoppers looking for style advice will be assisted by the 35-strong team of customer experience visual stylists who are on hand to provide help with fittings and outfit building. And for those who shop online, new click-and-collect points will be available for any online clothing, home and beauty orders.”

The shop is part of a £30m investment in stores in London this financial year.

M&S’ clothing and home division has been performing well. In the first half, clothing and home sales rose 4.7% and like for likes advanced 5.3%. Its market share climbed 90bps to 10.3% as style perceptions improved.
