Primark has opened its first store in Chicago, Illinois, marking the retailer’s debut in the US midwest.

The store, which opened on March 11, is Primark’s 12th store in the country. It has created around 250 new jobs in the area, according to the retailer.

The 36,000 sq ft store has three floors selling womenswear, menswear and childrenswear, alongside shoes, accessories, lingerie, homeware and a beauty department.

It also has branded departments for Disney and NBA.

Primark US president Andy Stewart said: “From our new spring/summer must-haves to exciting collaborations or sustainable ranges, all at great-value prices, we can’t wait for Chicago to discover Primark for themselves.

“Safety will be the biggest priority at opening and Primark has invested heavily in making sure the store is safe for both customers and employees.”

The store has put in place a number of coronavirus protocols, including limited the number of customers in the store.
