Foyles’s ‘Tin Foyle’ has been making friends, Ikea is exploring an unconventional dining concept and Daphne Sherman ‘Buttons Down’.
Foyles’s Tin Foyle shows his metal as he tours UK stores
The bookshop Foyles has a mascot called Tin Foyle, and he has been seen out and about of late, recording and sharing his antics on Instagram as he goes.
The robot was spotted back in March during his internship at the Charing Cross Road branch, where he was busy spreading the message, “Save the Bees” following the news that they were at risk of extinction.
After a bit of time out to recharge his batteries, he was spotted at the tills of the Bristol store where he was helping customers find their much-loved books.
He then headed behind the scenes to help out the goods-in team after some front-of-store action, proving his skills in this area certainly weren’t rusty.
He finished the day off with a quick coffee break with the Moomins in the in-store cafe… as you do.
We’re hoping that retail life continues to push Tin Foyle’s buttons as we’d like to see what he gets up to next.
IKEA risks breaking up relationships as it opens a pop-up do-it-yourself restaurant
Ikea has announced that as of 10 September customers will be able to book a do-it-yourself dining experience in their Shoreditch store.
As if people in relationships didn’t argue enough already when constructing the famous store’s flatpacked furniture, the store has gone one step further and is allowing customers to book a similar concept, but in the context of food.
The idea is that you and up to 20 of your guests book the restaurant out and have full autonomy to cook a meal of your choice, together with a sous -chef.
Perhaps the presence of this third person will temper the sparks flying between couples as they try to manoeuvre around the kitchen bench, steak knives in hand…!
The fun bit of the experience perhaps will be the naming of the food – what Scandi-themed names can you come up with for meatballs and gravy, or chicken nuggets and chips?
Cooking a meal for yourself in a restaurant – why it makes perfect sense…!
Ben Sherman’s widow ‘buttons down’ to business

Ben Sherman’s widow, Daphne Sherman, was pictured at the launch of her book, Buttoned Down – My Life with Ben and Beyond.

The book tells the tale of her life with Ben Sherman, the fashion mogul and founder of the worldwide famous shirt brand, to a backdrop of the ‘Swinging Sixties’ and the ‘Hungover Seventies’.
The book has been touted as a must-read for any mod fans, and so it is no surprise that the cast of All or Nothing, the musical based on the lives of the 1960s mod band Small Faces, turned up in force to show their support for Ben’s widow.
Joe Bishop, Josh Taylor and Tim Edwards grinned over the shoulders of Daphne Sherman as they had a peek at her new offering. ‘Hey Girl’ will you be releasing another book soon?
