The grocer’s new 25,000 sq ft store, in Penwortham, Lancashire, is the first of four such stores to be opened by Tesco in the UK this year, and Hoggett says the format will play a key role in helping the grocer reach its ambitious carbon-neutral target by 2035.

The store features electric vehicle charging points and more energy-efficient fridges and freezers, and will be one of the first Tesco stores in the North of England to have a soft plastics recycling facility.

Hoggett also explains what Tesco is doing to help support staff who have faced rising abuse from customers during the pandemic and addresses issues at both the Channel border and across the Irish Sea.
