The opening of Amazon’s first Fresh store in London in March 2021, was greeted with a great deal of fanfare. Despite the then restrictions in place because of Covid, there were queues of people waiting to see first-hand how the retail giant’s much-vaunted ‘just walk out’ technology worked in practice.
