Waitrose’s convenience format Little Waitrose is set to open in John Lewis’ Watford store tomorrow, the first time the shop has launched within its sister department store chain.
The 5,100 sq ft space is on the second floor of the store and its entrance is located adjacent to the door to the car park that serves the Harlequin Centre, Watford’s in-town shopping mall.
This is the second largest Little Waitrose to date, the biggest is a standalone store in Hampton.
John Lewis Watford managing director Jonathan Field said that he hoped “shoppers would be able to carry out weekly as well as convenience shopping” in the new shop-in-shop.
The new space has been carved out of a stockroom and a general office and features a number of elements not found in other Little Waitrose outlets, including fresh meat and fish counters, a larger wines and spirits area and an enhanced ambient food offer.
The project has cost £2.1m and was completed in 10 weeks.
