Building on its previous campaigns, the advert brings back the Fairy, voiced by French in a bid to “enchant audiences like never before” in the first of six ads that the retailer said “captures the true spirit of Christmas, with M&S Food at the heart of the celebration”.

As well as reprising her role as the voice of the Fairy, French will also be making her on-screen debut in the M&S ads as herself.

The ads will feature products such as M&S Food’s Best Ever slow-cooked turkey and indulgent Collection Cornish cruncher cauliflower cheese, frozen collection raspberry and pistachio roulade, and yule log.

The M&S ad, airing on December 17, will feature a cameo from classical singer Katherine Jenkins and a Christmas choir.

M&S food marketing director Sharry Cramond comments: “Last year, our Fairy added something truly magical to Christmas, and this year, we’re thrilled to take it to the next level, with Dawn French herself joining the fun alongside her Fairy character! We’re always looking to push creative boundaries, and we believe this year’s campaign will leave our customers smiling and feeling super inspired. To top it off, we’re honoured to feature the incredible Katherine Jenkins, adding even more festive magic to our screens!”
