The first of the former Homebase stores bought by B&Q has now opened in Greater Manchester.

B&Q’s new Altrincham store has opened with a staff of 38 employees, evenly split between 19 transferred Homebase workers and 19 newly hired team members.

Shoppers will find over 16,000 home improvement products available in-store, alongside specialised services including a dedicated TradePoint counter, timber cutting capabilities, and paint mixing.

The location features a garden centre section offering outdoor plants and gardening equipment, plus a 15-minute click-and-collect service and next-day collection.

This opening marks the first of eight planned B&Q store launches scheduled over the coming months, converting former Homebase locations to B&Q stores.

B&Q retail director Paddy Earnshaw said: “Today’s opening of B&Q Altrincham is the start of eight new store openings throughout April and May. This enables us to deliver on our commitment to make every customer count, and brings B&Q and TradePoint’s extensive offer of home improvement products and services to more customers across the UK and Ireland.

“It’s been a fast start to the year and a fantastic effort from teams across the whole business to convert these former Homebase sites to the B&Q brand and offer so quickly. We’re delighted to now be welcoming our new customers to these stores.”
