What is it?

Paint brand Valspar, which sells in B&Q, has launched a new “couples colour matching” tool in time for Valentine’s Day.
The tool enables customers to search and find the right colour palette for their couple as Valspar quips that it makes cohabiting “simpler than ever”.
The colour matching tool lets couples discover their perfect colour palette, which then creates the exact paint colours needed for the desired look.
Users need to upload an image depicting a colour they like, and the Valspar tool can tell them which of its 2000 pre-selected colours is the closest match.
Users can also view the colours in the palette and select additional colours to build up the palette further.
Why does it matter?
Once a match has been found, customers can go to any B&Q store and give the picture to the Valspar colour matching team to scan the sample and create a custom colour.
Colleagues will be able to mix colour formulas in a matter of minutes, ensuring a quick and efficient result.
Valspar said not only does the process help find a couple’s perfect colour, it saves time and money.
Strategic implications
The launch coincides with Valentine’s Day, a key event in retail as consumers purchase chocolates, flowers, gifts, and activities to do as couples.
Valspar senior brand manager Lucy Steele said: “Moving in with a partner is no easy task, learning to compromise and make decisions can be difficult for a lot of couples.
“The colour matching tool is about finding the perfect colour match, with their perfect match. Building a colour scheme that suits both tastes will not only help stop some arguments but also help create a home that is perfectly unique.”
