The Entertainer achieved a record Christmas. Like-for-likes rose 9.5% in the five weeks to December 29, as it pushes the button on international expansion plans.
Total sales surged 21% and the toy specialist said it maintained margins.
The jump in like-for-likes includes increases of 7.6% from stores and 17.7% from online, and it said it had outperformed the toy market average.
Founder Gary Grant said: “We expect to see significant year-on-year profit growth.” At present Grant is in the process of selecting two franchise partners to open the retailer’s first overseas stores.
The Entertainer plans to open 12 UK shops in 2013. It will also invest “significantly” in improving its website, and it will introduce 90-minute deliveries through Shutl in the first half of 2013.
In the 48 weeks to December 29 total sales rose 23.4% and like-for-like sales were up 9.3%.
Grant said he is “extremely pleased” with The Entertainer’s Christmas performance.
