How can we help our staff monitor and improve their health?
Retailers are eligible to partner with the Department of Health (DoH) and make use of its free NHS LifeCheck services, which are aimed at three distinct groups - for parents of babies aged five to eight months, teens, and the over 40s.
In particular it is targeting retailers to get them to promote the MidLifeCheck to their staff who are 40 or over, and is offering marketing materials to highlight the service to their staff.
Tesco has entered into a partnership with the DoH to promote the online NHS MidLifeCheck service. Staff fill in a confidential inter-active online questionnaire, which then gives tailored advice andsimple tips on how they can make healthier choices to improve their lifestyle. It covers topics such as smoking, healthy eating, alcohol, physical activity and emotional well-being.
The service directs employees to further information, available national and local services, and users can sign up to text and email services to help them stick to their programme.
Tesco wants to empower staff to improve their own health and wellbeing in a cost-effective manner, to increase productivity and reduce absenteeism in the longer run.
To promote the service, Tesco has publicised the service in its internal magazine, which goes out to all staff, giving information about why it believes the site is beneficial and encouraging them to log on and complete a LifeCheck.
A LifeCheck pod is scheduled to visit 10 of the retailer’s distribution sites so staff can log on and complete an NHS MidLifeCheck instantly. There are also plans for an NHS MidLifeCheck month and advertising that will appear in staff toilets across all of its stores, distribution centres and offices.
