Retail Week’s ranking of the UK’s top 50 retailers by sales for the 2013/14 financial year shows no changes within the top 10 compared with last year.

However, it did cover the period before Dixons and Carphone Warehouse joined forces and the newly merged company will almost certainly break into the top ten in the next edition.
Meanwhile, Aldi has been steadily gaining ground and is now positioned just outside the top ten. Discounters in general have been moving up the ranks in this year’s edition and this includes Lidl and Farmfoods as well as general merchandise discounters such as B&M, TJ Morris (which trades as Home Bargains) and Poundland.
There was one new entry in this edition, with Game Digital coming in at number 48 as its sales soared following the release of the PlayStation4 and Xbox One towards the end of 2013. Game replaces Phones 4U, which has been taken out of this ranking following its collapse in September 2014.
