Shoppers descended on Asda’s Wembley superstore to take part in Black Friday as Retail Week visited to film the good, the bad and the ugly.
Asda opened its doors at 8am after shoppers including Perita Leslie had been queuing since 3am to get a slice of the promotions.
Leslie went home happy after managing to get her hands on one of the cut-price TVs, but tempers flared elsewhere.
Local resident Barbara Lawrence told Retail Week she had injured her hand in the melee and said she would be lodging a formal complaint.
Asda chief merchandising officer Andrew Moore said Asda could not condone the scuffles that broke out and will learn from the experience, including repositioning the merchandise and making it more accessible.
However, Moore added he was pleased to see “a lot of customers walking out the store with a lot of merchandise making them very happy”.
He concluded: “We can never be happy until all the customers walk out of the store with smiles on their faces.”
Asda processed 2m transactions between 8am and 2pm and sold over 8,000 TVs in the first hour and over 10,000 tablets in the first two hours.
