Amazon has launched an offering in India that will allow businesses to sell and ship products through their own websites using Amazon’s infrastructure.
Indian businesses can use a Pay with Amazon service for order management and Amazon Easy Ship for delivery and fulfilment.
Amazon India vice-president and country manager Amit Agarwal said the move was part of the company’s ambition to “transform the way India buys and sells”.
He said: “Brands and businesses are looking to convert their static websites into digital storefronts and tap into the growing base of online shoppers in the country.
“We have made it simple for them to outsource their payments and fulfilment processes and enabled them to focus on their core business.”
The proposition is aimed at companies that want to scale and grow their businesses while keeping operational costs low.
Amazon’s delivery partners will pick up packages from the “doorstep” of the merchant and deliver them to the customer.
The ecommerce giant claims the Pay with Amazon service helps increase conversions, reduce fraud and increase new customer acquisitions.
Amazon Easy Ship was designed specifically for the Indian market.
Fashion boss quits
Separately, it has emerged Amazon India’s fashion and lifestyle boss, Vikas Purohit, has quit.
Purohit is regarded one of the “four pillars” of Amazon’s business in India, according to India’s Economic Times.
He was responsible for building the Amazon.in fashion business from scratch and oversaw a nine-fold sales increase in the past year.
Amazon was playing catch-up in the online fashion space with Myntra and Jabong.
