John Lewis has put a 20-seat wine bar in the food hall of its Oxford Street flagship in response to feedback from its customers indicating a desire for more catering in its food hall.
The wine bar, located at the heart of the wine section, sold 250 glasses of wine in its first week, according to food hall branch manager Mark Wiley.
The move is the first change that has been made to the food hall, which opened in October 2007.
It will be replicated in Bluewater, which will be the site of the retailer’s second food hall when the£22m makeover is completed later this year. The Bluewater food hall will also feature a number of other catering options, including a patisserie and a charcuterie bar.
