What was your first job in retailing?
Product manager at Mobile Fun, where I expanded the company’s mobile accessories ranges and led marketing activities for new product launches.
Which retail company do you admire most and why?
John Lewis - its product quality, price matching, customer service and excellent treatment of staff make it really stand out.
What is the trait you least like in yourself and why?
Stubbornness. When I get hold of an idea, I won’t let go.
Who have you learnt most from in your retail career?
Anthony Cook, Mobile Fun’s chairman. He’s got tireless enthusiasm for technology retail and a great willingness to take calculated risks.
What advice would you give someone starting out in retail?
Pick a retail sector that you are passionate about.
What keeps you awake at night?
The thought of Google going down for a day as we get a lot of orders through search and pay-per-click.
What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Working with the Mobile Fun team and being surrounded by shiny technology.
What’s your proudest achievement?
Hiring most of the team that I work with today.
What job would you have done if you hadn’t become a retailer?
Formula 1 driver.
What’s your favourite shop and why?
Apple Store in the Bullring. I could stay there all day.
What was your last purchase?
The iPad 2, shipped in from the US before UK launch.
