Figures to be released tomorrow
Next is expected to announce a fall in sales tomorrow, although the figures should be an improvement on the 6 per cent decline unveiled in September.

The retailer will show that like-for-like growth in the quarter to December 24 is down by between 3 per cent and 5 per cent, The Daily Telegraph reported. In September, Next said it was suffering the worst trading conditions for a decade.

Richard Hyman, managing director of research house Verdict said tomorrow's figures will show an improvement, though he warned that like-for-like comparisons were difficult. 'The top line figures will be OK, but the true situation is complicated by Next's huge floorspace growth programme. It makes it difficult to read what is really happening,' he said.
