Retail’s leaders share their resolutions for 2018 with Retail Week.
Sergio Bucher, chief executive, Debenhams

“To make shopping at Debenhams a confidence-boosting, sociable and fun experience for our customers (well, that’s our mission).
“My personal resolution is to look after myself by going to a Sweat! gym, eat healthy food at Loaf & Bloom and doing a blow dry at the Blow Beauty bar (well, not sure my balding head needs that), all this inside my favourite Debenhams store.”
Gillian Drakeford, UK and Ireland country manager, Ikea

“In 2018, my aim is to make Ikea faster and more agile as we look to enhance our customer experience. We will also focus on becoming more accessible to even more people, with new stores opening in Exeter and Greenwich.
“Secondly, as we continue to grow in the UK, we will continue investing in our people. It’s our belief that happy co-workers lead to happy customers and I’m committed to us having a positive impact on their lives.
“On a personal level, I want to be more present in the moment. When life is hectic, this can be really difficult to do. It’s easy to get carried away – so in future I will try and savour every single moment with my family and friends.”
Gary Favell, chief executive, Bathstore

“2017 has proven to be a tough time for big-ticket retailers, but being focused on service and putting the customer first will continue to be our point of difference against the pure online players and the DIY sheds. They all struggle to give that personal service.
“On a personal note, I want to spend more time with the family; as we are all aware, retail can be 24/7.”
