Burberry confirmed today it has appointed Costa Coffee’s global chief digital and information officer Charlotte Baldwin to its executive committee as the new chief information officer at the luxury brand.

Baldwin is expected to start her new role at Burberry at the end of March and will report to chief executive Joshua Schulman.

At Costa Coffee, Baldwin led the company’s “technology, digital and data organisation”.

She has also worked as chief information, digital and transformation officer at Bupa Insurance, as well as holding senior roles at Thomson Reuters, Pearson and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Schulman, who took the helm at the luxury retailer in July 2024, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Charlotte to Burberry.

“Charlotte is a highly experienced technology and digital leader with a track record of leading large-scale digital transformation.

“I am delighted that Charlotte will be joining our leadership team and look forward to working with her to advance our technological capabilities and drive our strategy forward.”

Schulman was appointed following the departure of Jonathan Akeroyd last year after the luxury retailer warned on profits and shifted its focus to “reconnecting with the core customer base”.

In its latest trading update for the 13 weeks to December 28, 2024, Burberry noted a 7% decline in retail revenue year on year to £659m amid its ongoing transformation strategy.

At the time, Schulman said he recognised it is “still very early in our transformation” and there “remains much to do”.
