Finance director, Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s down-to-earth finance director made his name working alongside Lord Harris (17) at Carpetright before joining Sainsbury’s in 2005. He has a strong retail pedigree, having also had stints at Superdrug, Arcadia and the Burton Group. Shapland is seen as one of the best in his field, with a rounded understanding of the wider business of retailing. While he could make it as a chief executive, he has also been linked with the M&S finance director’s job.
