Corporate and legal affairs director,Tesco
Tesco’s iron lady, Neville-Rolfe knows her way around the corridors of power like nobody else in retail. She ensures that despite its dominant position in the UK, Tesco remains on the right side of the politicians and regulators. She has the ear of Sir Terry Leahy (1), who rarely makes an outside move without asking her advice.
A former civil servant, 56-year-old Neville-Rolfe is also a key player in the British Retail Consortium, serving as the body’s deputy chairman. She also keeps a close eye on key relationships when it comes to international growth, as well as chairing Tesco’s Scottish garden centre chain Dobbies.
Despite her stern image, Neville-Rolfe has a wicked sense of fun. But she takes her role seriously. As Tesco’s empire grows further to include businesses such as banking and legal services, the scrutiny on its activities will only increase.
