Launched in the UK earlier this year, social gifting app Wrapp has attracted several big name retailers including Asos and Aurora.
The app allows Facebook users to send virtual vouchers and gift tokens to their friends. Users must download the app and connect it to their Facebook account. Wrapp then uses the Facebook data to alert users to friend’s birthdays. Via the app Wrapp users can choose a free or paid gift card from one of the participating brands, which they post to the friend’s timeline.

To claim the gift users just show the barcode, located within the app, to the retailer. The app is free to use and multiple friends can contribute to a gift. Not only does using said promotions increase brand awareness on Facebook, it also taps into the trend for social recommendations. Wrapp is an excellent way for retailers to increase fans on Facebook without being too intrusive. Because the interaction is driven by the friend and not the retailer, it is likely to have a higher value and be viewed more positively.
