US casualwear giant J Crew opened a menswear-only store in Bloomsbury, central London, this morning as the retailer enters the UK for the first time.

The J Crew store is named 38 Lamb’s Conduit and is situated on the London street of the same name, which is home to many menswear indies.

38 Lamb’s Conduit is primarily a shirt shop and offers services such as monogramming, customised stitching and buttons and a complimentary delivery service.

The shop bustled with shoppers and interested locals on a grey day in London. J Crew offered those who purchased opening day deals including a free pint at the Lamb pub on the same street.

Shoppers were also given a complimentary shoeshine.

J Crew boss Mickey Drexler visited the store today and earlier this week described Lamb’s Conduit Street as a “fantasy stage” on which he was excited to open a store.

The low-key opening comes ahead of its flagship Regent Street launch. Drexler said the shop will open on either on November 7 or 8. J Crew has taken the 17,000 sq ft store formerly occupied by Burberry. It is also opening a womenswear boutique in Chelsea next month.
