This year there has been huge growth in “social shopping”. Discount site Groupon is popular with customers, and retailers have been keen to use social networking sites to drive sales. The next stage is all this in one place, alongside price comparisons. Shopow aggregates reviews and deals alongside a search engine that finds the best prices across the internet.

It displays Q&As and strikes (shared product bookmarks) so users can gauge an opinion generated by other shoppers. It also pulls in information from the customer’s social networks and uses a ‘social sorting’ algorithm to prioritise friends’ reviews and suggestions. Customers can follow other shoppers and invite people from Facebook and Twitter. The more friends a customer has, the more personalised the experience of the website will be.

The site is still in beta so will improve over time, especially as the user base builds, but the overall idea is excellent. It will be interesting to see how it develops.
