Decathlon has launched a new rental service for customers to help them deal with burgeoning inflation on products such as kayaks and stand-up paddle boards

The sports retailer said the scheme will start from £20 a day on items including paddle boards, kayaks and e-bikes, and will allow customers to hire per day, rather than per hour, to make products more affordable.

For example, Decathlon said customers would spend £30 on the first day of hiring a kayak, which would then drop to £15 on the second day and £10 a day for any subsequent days.

The offer is available for customers at Decathlon London (Surrey Quays), Southampton, Poole and Glasgow (Braehead), but the service will be rolled out to more stores in the future.

Decathlon rental lead Sharon Poulter said: “This is a really exciting development in our work to become a more sustainable business, all the while boosting the accessibility of sports.

“Our mission is to make sports more accessible to the many, and offering rental services is definitely the most environmentally friendly way to do so. All of our rental products are refurbished or ‘like new’, creating a genuinely circular economy.

“As part of the service, we will be providing package deals so customers can rent everything they need for a weekend full of adventure, including e-bike and stand-up paddle board or kayak combinations at a reduced price. I look forward to growing this proposition, giving more and more people the opportunity to explore new sports.”
