HMV has opened a new-look multichannel store in Cambridge that provides “the direction of travel for the retailer”, according to a spokesman.

The two-level store, ground and first floor, is located on Fitzroy Street in a store formerly occupied by furniture retailer Clement Joscelyne, which went into administration in May.

As well as being a local landmark building, with a four floor-high ballustraded atrium, the new store gives prominence to the HMV technology offer and has a café where shoppers can sit and enjoy an inexpensive coffee, while surfing the net – wi-fi is due to be installed imminently. Mike Barry, store manager, said that he hopes the store will become a “community point”.

Previously, HMV traded in the city centre Lion Yard development, but left several months ago.
