The Chester store is home to an area that features time of day merchandising.

Tesco opened a Food To Go shop-in-shop last week in its Chester superstore. Measuring 1500 sq ft, the space functions as a semi-discrete entity within the store and features time-of-day merchandising, giving shoppers the opportunity to shop different offers from the same area at breakfast, lunch and in the early evening.

Practically, this means porridge, bacon sandwiches or fresh fruit in the early morning, sandwiches, sushi or hot food to go at lunchtime and ‘grab and go’ ready meals in the evening. It is the first time that Tesco has tried this form of merchandising and another shop-in-shop is scheduled for completion in Sandhurst, Berkshire, in a few weeks, according to the company.
