Foot Locker’s latest European store places great emphasis on its location. Throughout the 5,920 sq ft space, the brand has engaged with local artists to create artwork intended to reflect the surroundings of Barcelona.
The sports retailer engaged with local artists to create in-store murals designed to illustrate what it called Barcelona’s “unique spirit”.
Artists also created a series of coins that younger customers can collect during their time in the kids’ area of the new retail space.
Sustainability was a priority in the design of the new Barcelona outlet, with the store’s mannequins made from reused sneakers, while new interactive tech elements are introduced to customers throughout.
The store also has a dedicated House of Hoops, selling exclusive NBA merchandise through an ongoing partnership with Nike. The addition is part of the brand’s Raise the Game community initiative, part of its work to support local basketball teams across Europe.
To mark the opening of the store, a series of immersive installations will feature across the city in collaboration with local artists and students from the city’s BAU Design College.
Foot Locker Europe senior vice-president and general manager Susie Kuhn said: “This new store in Barcelona sets a precedent for us in Europe with its innovative technology for an improved customer experience and design elements from local artists that showcase the diversity of the city and its vibrant youth culture.
“It also builds a deeper connection with our local community, providing them with a space that goes beyond the traditional retail space and makes visitors, locals and basketball fans active participants.”
