Retailers looking to make an impact and who happen to be in New York could do worse than take a look at the Calvin Klein store on Madison Avenue.

The upmarket fashion brand has given its flagship store an extreme makeover, and the outcome is yellow.

Yellow scaffolding, yellow plinths, yellow walls and ceiling and even yellow theatre-style lights overhead make this an eye-catcher.

If nothing else it proves that using a single colour for an interior has the capacity to attract attention in a manner that might prove difficult with a mixed colour palette.

In this instance, the stock becomes the star simply because of the contrast with its surrounding.

The ‘installation’, as it is termed, is the handiwork of Sterling Ruby and the whole is perhaps seen at its best after dark.

This is when the design sings out to the wealthy folk hurrying up and down Madison, many en route to Barneys, just a few doors north of this one.
