Not strictly a shop of the week, but a pop-up hotel-cum-design installation offering a shopping and gig experience from sneaker brand and retailer Converse.
Open for one weekend only, the One Star Hotel was part of a campaign for a new collection from Converse.
Trendy Hoxton was the location, an ironic take on the culture of five star hotels was the intention. And while it did indeed boast a number of bedrooms, the hotel was the backdrop to a ‘zero sleep’ event for the sneaker, skateboard and music community.
There were ‘room’ experiences featuring performances, workshops and conversations and curated by Converse collaborators, including A$AP Nast, Tizzy T, Leo Mandella and Erin Magee’s fashion label MadeMe.
The venue was typical of the buildings found in this London neighbourhood with an industrial warehouse feel about it, pepped up by arty lighting across the exterior.
As a means of generating attention, it was an unusual and interesting destination.
