A successful grocery and dining destination in Rome, Eataly would be hard to visit without taking time to sit down and eat.

Those visiting this year’s World Retail Congress, which finished in Rome yesterday, may have taken time out to visit popular shopping and dining destination Eataly.

Featuring 18 restaurants across four floors, the 15th branch of this Italian slow food retailer and restaurant provider is an enormous enterprise, that covers 170,000 sq ft.

The Eataly model has already proved successful on three continents and it looks like the sort of thing that would do well as either a large part of a department store, or a standalone shop.

This particular outpost is housed in a glass-domed building that lay empty for more than 20 years previously.

London is rumoured to be next on the hit list of big cities that Eataly has in its sights and it will be interesting to see where owner Oscar Farinetti decides might be appropriate when the format does finally make it to the UK.
