Jaguar Land Rover’s in-mall store is a prime example of how retail spaces are evolving
Off-road or sleek and fast – take your pick.
The new Jaguar Land Rover showroom at Westfield Stratford City in east London that has just opened through the auspices of the online car dealership Rockar, is unexpected in terms of product offering, but increasingly familiar in terms of the in-mall shopping category.
Just a few shiny cars grace the ‘forecourt’ of this Dalziel & Pow designed store, but there is sufficient technology packed into the space to ensure potential buyers are aware of what they could own, should they buy into one of the brands.
The business model is very similar to the Hyundai ‘store’ in Bluewater, Kent, allowing shoppers to create a virtual car of their choice and, if the mood grabs them, to buy said car on the way to Marks & Spencer. If the technology proves insufficient, the would-be owner can also book a one-hour test drive.
The changing face of the shopping mall is frequently remarked upon – and this is a prime example of the process at work.
