I’m pleased to say that the financial year ended with a flurry over Easter in Minehead. As a result, our year-end figures were up on last year, which is great news given the tough start we’ve all had to 2008.

We’re well into the new financial year now and, so far, sales are ahead of last year – we’ve certainly witnessed the same good levels of footfall. At the turn of the year, I was confident of further success for The Original Factory Shop in 2008 and so far, so good.

Our range of value-for-money products places us in a good position. People are without doubt tightening the purse strings in the present climate, but they still need to spend on everyday essentials. And, more than ever, they are seeking out the high-quality, high-value products that we have become famous for.

Now that the sun is shining and summer is on the way (well, fingers crossed), we’re confident sales will continue to flourish as people begin to think about sprucing up their homes and gardens and enjoying being outdoors. This summer, we may need to recruit extra seasonal staff.

The store is looking really good now, with the new season’s ranges adding some much-needed colour. Just having the vibrant, multi-coloured clogs and sandals instead of fur winter boots in the footwear department lightens the store’s overall look.

Here’s hoping for a long hot summer and another busy few months ahead.
