ChatGPT has today rolled out a new functionality in its search feature which allows customers to search for, compare prices and buy products.

Users can now use ChatGPT for personalised shopping recommendations, and use it to search for visual product details, pricing, and reviews of products as well as click directly on links to purchase those products from retailers.

The functionality currently covers fashion, beauty, homewares and electronics, with plans to expand to more retail categories as the trial expands.

The new search feature will be rolling out to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Free and logged-out users in every market where the search tool is available.

“Shopping online can be overwhelming, lots of tabs, reviews, and specs to sort through,” ChatGPT said in a statement. “Instead of scrolling through search results, you can just have a conversation. You can ask follow up questions, compare products, and focus on what actually matters to you, all in plain language.”

The AI giant also plans to introduce “memory integration” into the new search tool in the months to come.

Memory integration will mean that customers can search for shopping and ChatGPT will “consider context from past conversations to help find a better answer for you”.
