What is it?
Currys has become Microsoft’s first official retail repair partner in the UK, giving customers the ability to access support in its stores and through its 1,200-employee electricals repair lab in Newark, Nottinghamshire.
As an authorised service provider, any customer with a Microsoft Surface laptop can now take their devices to Currys for replacement under warranty or official repairs, no matter where the device was purchased.
Why does it matter?
The partnership underlines Currys’ commitment to reducing electronic waste, and will also help customers with better access to in-person support and convenient repair services.
“At Currys, we know that offering customers the right aftersales support when it comes to their tech and ensuring they have the longest life possible is just as important as offering the latest ranges of amazing technology”
Lindsay Haselhurst, chief operating officer, Currys
Strategic implications
Currys is putting circularity at the heart of its strategy, with its ‘Long Live Your Tech’ commitment to repair, reuse or recycle 3 million unwanted electrical items a year.
Expect more circular initiatives from retailers as customers demand these for both environmental and cost reasons.
