In November Tesco launched a pared down, optimised version of its website with a more streamlined navigation, rendered specifically for mobile screens. The mobile site was created by Tesco’s web development team and mobile specialists Usablenet.

Customers can search the entire Tesco Direct product range, compare prices and read product information and buying guides. There is also a store locator for customers who want to collect their purchases. The mobile site is simple to use and provides a complete shopping experience - users can book delivery and pay via their smartphones. Traffic to the Tesco Direct website via mobiles has grown steadily, with a 300% growth in mobile visitors over the last year.

The launch follows the introduction of the grocery app two months ago for customers who to order groceries from their iPhone. There is also a barcode scanning app that allows customers to scan a product to have it appear in their online basket.
