Tesco is offering Facebook users the chance to earn double Clubcard points by using the social network site to like, share and buy its products.

Tesco is offering Facebook users the chance to earn double Clubcard points by using the social network site to like, share and buy its products. Once registered via Tesco’s Facebook page, customers can use the ‘Share & Earn’ app to post a product from Tesco Direct to their Facebook wall.

The technology behind the app then creates a bespoke link for that customer, which tracks whether they or a Facebook friend goes on to make a purchase. When a sale is completed, the app – connected to the user’s Clubcard account – will credit both the sharer and the purchaser with double points.

Tesco already has about 850,000 Facebook ‘likes’ but there isn’t always a clear reason to connect with the retailer. By developing an app that rewards social behaviour, Tesco can increase its number of followers and reach while also directly using existing fans to drive sales. The retailer will be able to use the data it collects via the scheme to develop future technology.
