Tesco shells out £106 million in share scheme

Up to 45,000 Tesco staff have received a share in a£106 million windfall because two Save as You Earn share schemes have matured. Top investors are looking forward to clearing£7,000 each on the deal. More than 75 per cent of participating staff intend to keep hold of their shares, according to the retailer.

Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy said: 'Being a shareholder in Tesco is important to so many of our staff because it gives them a personal stake in the company's success.'
