Deputy chief executive, Mamas & Papas
What was your first job in retailing?
I worked as a product demonstrator in stores all over London, showing customers how different toys worked.
Which retail company do you admire most and why?
I am a big fan of John Lewis. It sets high standards of service and product knowledge, backed up by an organisation driven by principles.
What is the trait you least like in yourself and why?
I can be very impatient and having agreed strategies I like to get them done straight away.
Who have you learnt most from in your retail career?
Business author Tom Peters gives great common sense advice that is uncompromising and can be applied to any business.
What advice would you give someone starting out in retail?
You need to be prepared to go above and beyond what is expected in many other businesses. Be enthusiastic and ask to do all the jobs nobody else wants to do as it can get you noticed.
What keeps you awake at night?
Nothing. I sleep very well.
What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Having watched a product come to life over many months, enjoying seeing great sales numbers daily and then watching people use it.
What’s your proudest achievement?
Working with David and Luisa Scacchetti to transform Mamas & Papas from a small importer of baby products into a global brand and retailer.
What job would you have done if you hadn’t become a retailer?
I would have worked in the music industry.
What’s your favourite shop and why?
Apple. Even if you have everything you just have to go back and keep looking.
What was your last purchase?
A Samsung Smart TV. How did we manage without it?
