The former chair of the family business, the home and variety store group Wilko, appeared before MPs scrutinising the retailer’s collapse at a business and trade committee hearing this week. Wilkinson’s testimony had a strong whiff of ‘everything was the blame but me’, but inability and inertia were at the heart of Wilko’s problems.
