Sustainable high streets should put the needs of the community at its heart in future, according to self-styled retail guru Mary Portas at Retail Week Live today.

Portas said she does not know the answer to saving the high street but said she believes the high street of the future will be very different to high streets which have become too similar over the last ten years.
“We will create unique mixes for the right market. So what’s right for a high street in Doncaster will not be right for a high street in Guildford,” she said.
“I do not think we will see high streets completely populated with shops.”
