The Community Food Connection scheme will be in place in all Tesco stores by the end of 2017. It will allow thousands of charities across the country to benefit from millions of pounds worth of surplus food each year.
As part of the plans to stamp out food waste, Tesco is also launching its own wonky veg range, named Perfectly Imperfect, following similar moves by big four rivals Asda and Morrisons.
The move will initially see potatoes and parsnips sold in about 200 stores, but the range will expand to include a further 15 types of fruit and vegetables in the coming months.
Lewis spoke to Retail Week about the issue of food waste, making larger stores “creative” and “convenient” and his prime target for 2016.
